Asia’s Affluent Intensify Crypto Holdings Amid Rising Institutional Acceptance

Wealthy families and family offices across Asia are increasingly integrating cryptocurrencies into their investment strategies, signaling a critical shift in how affluent investors view digital assets. The region is witnessing growing confidence in cryptocurrencies, driven by better regulatory frameworks, enhanced institutional acceptance, and the appeal of strong performance metrics.

In Singapore, Jason Huang of NextGen Digital Venture has captured investor interest with his newly launched long-short crypto equity fund, Next Generation Fund II. Introduced in May, the fund mobilized over US$100 million in a short span—largely backed by family offices and fintech entrepreneurs—following the remarkable 375% return generated by his previous fund.R

Swiss investment giant UBS reveals that some overseas Chinese family offices are now aiming to allocate about 5% of their portfolios to crypto, with younger generations in particular prompting this strategic pivot.

The surge in crypto interest correlates with encouraging performance—Bitcoin recently surpassed US$124,000—and improved regulation. The U.S. GENIUS Act and Hong Kong’s stablecoin legislation have helped bolster confidence, positioning digital assets as increasingly mature investment tools.

Industry sentiment has noticeably shifted. According to Saad Ahmed of Gemini, crypto is no longer considered an experimental asset class but a critical component of diversified portfolios. Affluent investors are increasingly moving beyond basic exposure to ETFs, learning the benefits of direct token holdings, and deploying sophisticated strategies like arbitrage and market-neutral plays.

At the platform level, demand has soared. Hong Kong’s HashKey Exchange has reported an 85% year-on-year rise in registered users, while South Korea’s leading exchanges experienced increases of 17% in total trading volume and over 20% in average daily volume during 2025.
