SoftBank, Sony and Honda Lead Japan’s Push to Build Sovereign AI With Nvidia Chips

Tokyo, 17 July 2026 – SoftBank, Sony Group, Honda Motor and NEC are spearheading a major Japanese initiative to develop a domestically produced multimodal artificial intelligence model using large-scale computing infrastructure powered by Nvidia’s next-generation chips.

The initiative is being led through Noetra Corporation, a government-supported AI company backed by 44 businesses and organisations spanning manufacturing, finance, telecommunications, technology and industrial services.
