PUTRAJAYA, Sept 8, 2025 — As Malaysia positions itself at the forefront of digital transformation and AI development, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reminded citizens that technological progress must be deeply rooted in moral values and historical understanding to ensure meaningful and sustainable advancement.
Speaking at the launch of the National Historians Council at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Anwar emphasised that the strength behind digital ambitions lies in a solid foundation of culture, identity, and ethics. He urged that future generations be trained not only in modern disciplines but also deeply immersed in history, culture, language, religion, and timeless good values.
Anwar lamented the often-passive presentation of history, especially to young audiences, saying that engaging narratives—packed with booklets, visuals, and interactive storytelling—are essential to spark curiosity and reflection. “A civilisation cannot stand on technology alone; it must be upheld by culture, history, and values of excellence,” he stressed. He framed the envisioned “Malaysian civilisation” under the Madani vision, one that thrives by being deeply lived and appreciated.
Moreover, the Prime Minister offered a caution rooted in recently voiced concerns: embracing digital transformation or adopting AI without regard for ethics and cultural context risks eroding national identity. If new technologies—even if inspired by global models—are not harmonised with Malaysia’s moral framework, the consequences may undermine faith and values. He further warned that innovation should translate into tangible improvements, not just flashy technology without productivity gains or positive social impact.
In Anwar’s words, preserving history with integrity—free from embellishment—and marrying it harmoniously with progress is not optional. It is central to building an ethically centred, digitally fluent society rooted in Malaysian identity.
