Petaling Jaya, 25 July 2026 – Malaysia could begin producing its first locally manufactured human vaccine as early as 2028, accelerating the country’s efforts to strengthen health security, develop domestic biotechnology expertise and reduce its dependence on overseas suppliers.
The planned product is a 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, commonly known as PCV13. It is designed to protect against 13 types of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria associated with serious infections, including pneumonia and meningitis.
