Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo Resigns in Surprise Leadership Change

Jakarta, 27 July 2026 – Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo has resigned for personal reasons, triggering an unexpected leadership transition as Southeast Asia’s largest economy manages currency pressure, elevated global uncertainty and slowing growth.

President Prabowo Subianto has accepted the resignation, which was submitted over the weekend. Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti has assumed responsibility as interim governor in accordance with Indonesia’s central bank law.
