Penang PKR Youth Slams Inverted Jalur Gemilang Display at Kepala Batas Store

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang PKR Youth has expressed strong disapproval over the display of the Jalur Gemilang in an upside-down position outside a hardware store in Kepala Batas, Penang.

Youth wing chief Muhammad Zakwan Mustafa Kamal described the act as deeply disrespectful, irresponsible, and a direct affront to national dignity.

“The Jalur Gemilang represents our sovereignty, unity, and national pride. Displaying it upside down is a serious insult, particularly during the month we celebrate our independence,” he said in a statement today.

Zakwan urged authorities to launch an immediate investigation and take firm legal action if the act was found to be intentional. He also called on the shop owner to issue a public apology to Malaysians.

“We must remember that the Jalur Gemilang is not just a decorative item—it symbolizes the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and embodies our national identity. Treating it carelessly or mockingly is a betrayal of patriotic values.”

“We will not stay silent when our national symbol is disrespected. We stand united with all Malaysians who cherish this country and demand justice to prevent such incidents from recurring,” he added.
