Superman Flies Past $600 Million Globally, Setting a High Bar for DC’s Reboot

The latest Superman reboot has become the first superhero movie of 2025 to surpass US $600 million in global box office earnings, signaling strong audience response and setting a promising course for the newly relaunched DC Universe.

Directed by James Gunn and co-produced with Peter Safran under the newly formed DC Studios, the film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

In its opening weekend, the film delivered an impressive performance, grossing US $217 million worldwide—split between US $122 million domestically and US $95 million from overseas markets—far surpassing the projected US $100 million debut.

Director James Gunn expressed heartfelt gratitude to fans on social media, calling the success “a hopeful testament to the kindness… of human beings.” He emphasized the film’s focus on moral themes, such as the difference between uncompromising virtue and moral balance, embodied in the dynamic between Superman and Lois.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios view this film as the cornerstone of a bold new era for DC. CEO David Zaslav confirmed that this release is the first in a long-term vision that includes upcoming titles like Supergirl, Clayface, and the HBO Max series Lanterns.
