Jakarta, 20 July 2026 – The Indonesian rupiah could recover from its recent weakness as higher interest rates, stronger fiscal discipline and improving confidence in the country’s economic management encourage investors to reconsider one of Asia’s most pressured currencies.
Bank Indonesia has tightened monetary policy repeatedly to defend the rupiah, raising its benchmark interest rate to 5.75% after the currency fell to a series of record lows against the US dollar.
