Singapore, 20 July 2026 – The US dollar strengthened against most major currencies at the start of Asian trading as escalating tensions between the United States and Iran pushed Brent crude above US$90 a barrel, weakened investor confidence and reinforced expectations that US interest rates could remain elevated.
The dollar gained 0.1% to 162.48 yen, reaching its strongest level against the Japanese currency since 9 July. The US dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major currencies, also rose 0.1% to 100.84.
