Ismail Sabri Denounces False Claims Linking Him to Assault on Rafizi Ramli’s Son

Kuala Lumpur: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has firmly rejected circulating allegations implicating him in the violent attack on the son of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. The assault reportedly occurred on August 13 at a Putrajaya shopping mall.

In his statement released on August 19, Ismail Sabri clarified that his press secretary had filed a report at the Dang Wangi police station concerning two Facebook articles that falsely accused him of involvement in the incident and suggested a scandal with a private entity. He emphasized that these posts were baseless and malicious, intended solely to tarnish his reputation. Additionally, reports were lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Facebook, and he has instructed his lawyer to pursue legal action against those responsible.

Authorities had already confirmed that the police were investigating the assault—Bukit Aman, the Royal Malaysia Police headquarters, has taken over the investigation. Officials are analyzing CCTV footage and tracing the attackers, who were seen in black attire and helmets.

Concurrently, Rafizi Ramli has also dismissed any link between the assault and Ismail Sabri (or former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin), describing such associations as malicious attempts to shift focus from the case.
