Malaysia Calls for AI-Driven Modernisation of Waqf Institutions

Kuala Lumpur, 27 July 2026 – Malaysia’s waqf institutions and Islamic outreach organisations should embrace artificial intelligence and digitalisation to remain relevant, improve administration and strengthen their contribution to society, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar said technological capability must be developed alongside strong ethical principles, sound governance and respect for humanitarian values. Without those safeguards, rapid advances in artificial intelligence, information technology and quantum computing could weaken institutional accountability and public confidence.
