Petaling Jaya, September 3, 2025 — Malaysia’s Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to focus on its internal unrest before making public predictions about the timing of the next general election. His call comes amid reports of a “poison pen” letter targeting the party’s deputy president, a development he said was indicative of deeper internal dysfunction.
At a post-cabinet press briefing, Fahmi—who also serves as PKR’s information chief—described Bersatu’s internal politics as “vibrant and dynamic,” and suggested that addressing the circulation of the defamatory letter should take priority over any speculation surrounding GE16 or state elections.
This statement was made in response to Party Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s earlier projection that both the 16th General Election and several state polls could be held next year.
The emergence of the letter, which reportedly defames Deputy President Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, has heightened tensions ahead of Bersatu’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for September 6–7 at Shah Alam’s Ideal Convention Centre. Mohd Azrudin Md Idris, head of Bersatu’s Hang Tuah Jaya division, described the letter’s circulation via WhatsApp as a “planned move,” reflecting growing concern about internal sabotage.
