San Francisco, 21 July 2026 – Alphabet is heading into its second-quarter earnings announcement under heightened investor scrutiny as delays to its next flagship Gemini artificial intelligence model and rapidly rising data-centre spending raise questions over the financial returns from its AI expansion.

The Google parent has delayed the launch of Gemini 3.5 Pro from its previously expected June release. The model is regarded as an important part of the company’s effort to compete more effectively in AI coding tools and agentic applications capable of completing complex workplace tasks with limited human involvement.
