SYDNEY, 15 June 2026 — Industrial action at one of Australia’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities is set to continue longer than expected after unions announced plans to extend strike activities at the Ichthys LNG project until 6 July, raising the risk of further disruptions to LNG exports from one of the world’s largest energy suppliers.
The move follows a decision by Australia’s industrial relations tribunal to reject an application by Japanese energy company Inpex Corporation to halt the strike action on national interest grounds.
Australia is the world’s second-largest LNG exporter after the United States, and the Ichthys project accounts for approximately 10% of the country’s LNG supply.
