Zuckerberg Moves to Calm Meta Workforce After AI-Led Restructuring and Job Cuts

MENLO PARK, 21 May 2026 – Meta Platforms Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has sought to reassure employees that the company does not expect further company-wide layoffs this year, after a major restructuring that cut thousands of jobs and shifted more staff into artificial intelligence-focused work.

The message comes after Meta eliminated about 8,000 jobs, equivalent to around 10% of its global workforce, while also closing thousands of previously approved open roles. The restructuring is part of a wider effort to reshape the company around AI agents, automation and smaller operating teams.
