Kuala Lumpur, 5 June 2026 – Job-hopping among young Malaysians should not be viewed as a sign of weaker work ethic, but as a response to deeper structural issues in the labour market, including low starting pay, underemployment, poor job matching and limited career progression.
According to the PNB Research Institute, frequent job changes among younger workers are mainly driven by poor job quality rather than changing attitudes toward work. Its latest findings suggest that many young Malaysians are moving between jobs because entry-level roles often fail to provide sufficient income, skills utilisation or long-term development pathways.
