US Tariff Proposal Too Early to Gauge Impact, Says Amir Hamzah

Kuala Lumpur, 4 June 2026 – Malaysia says it is still too early to assess the impact of a proposed United States tariff on Malaysian imports, as the measure remains under consultation and has not yet been finalised.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government would need to wait for the final outcome before determining the possible effects on Malaysia’s economy, trade flows and affected industries. His remarks come after the United States Trade Representative proposed additional duties on imports from selected economies, including Malaysia.
