Beijing, 29 April 2026 – China’s top leadership has pledged to strengthen the country’s energy security, accelerate technological development and deepen economic self-sufficiency, as the fallout from the Iran war begins to test the resilience of the world’s second-largest economy.
The latest signal came from China’s Politburo, the Communist Party’s top decision-making body, which said the country must respond systematically to external shocks and improve its ability to secure energy resources. The statement reflects Beijing’s growing concern that geopolitical disruption, higher fuel costs and supply-chain uncertainty could place new pressure on factories, exporters and household confidence.
