US Imposes 50% Tariffs on Canadian Goods as Trade Tensions Escalate

Washington, 21 July 2026 – The United States has announced fresh tariffs of 50% on nearly US$20 billion worth of Canadian imports, opening a new front in the trade dispute between two of North America’s most closely integrated economies.

The tariffs will apply to a wide range of products, including wine, dairy goods, cement, furniture, clothing, sporting equipment, fishing rods, seeds and swimming pools. The measures are scheduled to take effect within 30 days, leaving a limited period for both governments to negotiate a possible resolution.
