TikTok User ‘Cikguchandra’ to Face Court for Allegedly Insulting Prime Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The owner of a TikTok account accused of insulting the prime minister is scheduled to be charged in court tomorrow.

The federal police’s Classified Crimes Unit confirmed that the individual, who goes by the username Cikguchandra, will be brought before the Shah Alam Sessions Court (Criminal) at 8.30am. The charge will be filed under Section 233(1) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), in a statement, identified the account holder as S. Chandrasegaran and said he is one of four individuals being charged for making remarks deemed disruptive to public order.

According to the AGC, the decision followed a review of investigation papers submitted by police on content posted through the TikTok account cikguchandra3.

Also facing charges are:

  • Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, Umno Youth chief, over posts made on his Akmal Saleh Facebook account;
  • Muhammad Hilman Idham, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief, via his TikTok account alfah.channel.tv; and
  • Siti Hajar Aflah Sharuddin, through her TikTok account SHA_Abrienda.
