Kuala Lumpur, 14 May 2026 – Johor’s workforce is showing signs of a growing mismatch between skills readiness and salary expectations as the state prepares for the next phase of growth under the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
A new workforce study released ahead of the JS-SEZ Masterplan announcement found that Johor’s labour market is entering a more complex transition. While the state is preparing to move up the value chain, income expectations are rising faster than workforce readiness, raising questions over whether talent capability can keep pace with economic ambition.
