Bangkok, 29 April 2026 – Thailand’s farmers are entering a difficult planting season as the Iran war disrupts global fertiliser and fuel supplies, raising production costs for key agricultural sectors including pineapples, palm oil and staple food crops.

The crisis has arrived at a sensitive time for Southeast Asia’s agricultural economy. Farmers are preparing for planting, but fertiliser has become more expensive and harder to secure. The Christian Science Monitor reported that the global fertiliser shortage “could not have come at a worse time” for Southeast Asian farmers, particularly as planting season begins.
