Petrol Subsidy: MCMC to Investigate Muhyiddin’s Denial

CYBERJAYA (Bernama): The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will launch an immediate investigation into Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s denial of allegations that he defended the rights of foreigners in relation to the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy.

In a statement today, MCMC said the probe would be conducted in accordance with existing laws.

“MCMC has taken note of the Prime Minister’s Office statement requesting an investigation into an allegation denied by the Pagoh MP.

“The public is reminded not to misuse social media to spread unverified information,” the commission said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier directed MCMC to carry out the investigation, in line with the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

During a Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday, Anwar reportedly said he had received a report that an opposition MP had defended the rights of foreigners to benefit from subsidy rationalisation.

Muhyiddin, who is also a former prime minister, denied the claim in a social media post, stating he had never made any statement supporting foreigners’ rights in the RON95 targeted subsidy scheme.

He added that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has consistently maintained that subsidies should prioritise the needs of Malaysians.
