Cupertino, 5 May 2026 – Apple is exploring whether Intel and Samsung Electronics could help produce the main processors used in its devices in the United States, signalling a potentially important shift in the iPhone maker’s long-term semiconductor supply-chain strategy.
The discussions remain exploratory, but they reflect Apple’s effort to reduce reliance on a single manufacturing partner for its custom-designed chips, which power products such as the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Apple has long depended heavily on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for its most advanced processors, making TSMC one of the most critical companies in its global supply chain.
