Kuala Lumpur, 16 June 2026 – Malaysia’s external trade strengthened to RM3.1 trillion in 2025, reinforcing the country’s position as one of Asia’s most trade-dependent economies as Penang continued to dominate national export performance.
According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, total trade last year was supported by exports of RM1.6 trillion and imports of RM1.5 trillion. The performance reflected Malaysia’s continued integration into global supply chains, particularly in electrical and electronics, semiconductors, refined petroleum products and palm oil.
