Malaysia’s Labour Productivity Growth Eases to 4.8% in Q1 Amid Global Headwinds

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 May 2026 – Malaysia’s labour productivity growth moderated in the first quarter of 2026, even as the economy continued to expand and labour market conditions remained stable amid a more uncertain global environment.

Labour productivity, measured by value added per hour worked, grew 4.8% in Q1 2026, easing from 5.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025. Value added per hour worked stood at RM45.5 during the quarter, compared with RM47.7 previously, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia.
