Westport, 15 June 2026 – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s warning over US restrictions on advanced artificial-intelligence models has turned a technology dispute into a broader question of national economic resilience, digital sovereignty and strategic dependence.

Carney said the United States’ move to restrict access to Anthropic’s latest AI models underlined the danger of relying too heavily on a limited number of American technology providers. His remarks came after Anthropic took its newest models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, offline to comply with a US directive aimed at preventing foreign access to frontier AI capabilities.
