WASHINGTON, 18 June 2026 — The United States has announced targeted visa restrictions against individuals it says are undermining peace efforts in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, as concerns grow over renewed tensions that could destabilise northern Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa.
In a statement released on Thursday, the United States Department of State said the measures are aimed primarily at hardliners within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and their immediate family members.
