Global 5G Subscriptions Hit 3.1 Billion as AI Pushes Mobile Networks Into New Growth Phase

Stockholm, 18 June 2026 – Global 5G subscriptions have crossed the three-billion mark, underscoring how quickly the technology has moved from early deployment into mainstream adoption as artificial intelligence, cloud services and fixed wireless access reshape mobile network demand.

According to the June 2026 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, 162 million 5G subscriptions were added worldwide during the first quarter of 2026, bringing the global total to 3.1 billion. The number is expected to more than double to 6.4 billion by the end of 2031, reflecting continued network expansion, device adoption and rising demand for higher-speed connectivity.
