KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has reaffirmed its commitment to extending the Electric Train Service (ETS) to Johor, saying it is actively collaborating with contractors and authorities to ensure the Kluang segment becomes operational as soon as possible.
In a statement issued Sunday, KTMB said trial runs are already underway, marking steady progress toward the next phase of the project.
The clarification comes in response to recent media coverage of the ETS extension from Segamat to Johor Bahru. KTMB emphasized its dedication to delivering a safe, modern, and transformative rail service for the southern corridor.
“As previously announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook during the launch of ETS operations to Segamat, the southern rollout will proceed in phases—Segamat, Kluang, and JB Sentral—based on key technical milestones and required regulatory clearances,” KTMB said.
The company reiterated that ensuring safety, reliability, and full operational readiness remains its top priority before opening any new stretch to the public.
KTMB also highlighted the successful launch of ETS services to Segamat in March, which has enhanced travel connectivity and boosted local economic activity.
“We sincerely thank our passengers, local communities, and the public for their ongoing support and patience. KTMB remains fully committed to the successful expansion of ETS services to the south,” the statement concluded.
