Independent Oversight Could Strengthen Malaysia’s MediAsas Rollout

Putrajaya, 29 July 2026 – Malaysia is preparing independent governance for MediAsas as the new medical insurance and takaful programme enters a pilot phase designed to test affordability, operational readiness and consumer protection before a nationwide launch.

MediAsas is the brand for the country’s base medical and health insurance and takaful plan. The pilot is scheduled to run in the Klang Valley from the end of July through October, involving six insurers and takaful operators together with selected private hospitals. Full implementation is targeted for January 2027.
