Aiken, South Carolina, 29 July 2026 – Brookfield and NextEra Energy are advancing plans for an artificial-intelligence infrastructure campus at the Savannah River Site, a former nuclear-weapons production complex in South Carolina, with potential investment reaching US$100 billion. The proposal illustrates how the AI boom is drawing capital toward locations where land, transmission and large-scale energy development can be combined.

The Savannah River Site covers an unusually large federal footprint near Aiken and Augusta. Its legacy infrastructure and access to energy networks have made it a candidate for data-centre development as the United States seeks to place more computing capacity near dependable power. Technology companies, infrastructure developers and utilities have previously examined opportunities at the site.
