Samsung Chip Workers Set for Major AI-Boom Bonuses as Strike Risk Eases

SEOUL, 21 May 2026 – Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor workers are set to receive substantial bonuses after the company reached a tentative wage agreement with its union, easing fears of a major strike at a critical moment for the global artificial intelligence chip supply chain.

The agreement is expected to avert an 18-day strike involving about 48,000 workers at Samsung’s domestic chip operations, a development that had raised concerns over possible disruption to memory chip production. The proposed deal is subject to a union vote from 22 May to 27 May, but market reaction was positive, with Samsung shares rising sharply after the agreement was announced.
