Samsung Urges Union to Resume Talks as Strike Threat Raises Chip-Supply Concerns

Seoul, 14 May 2026 – Samsung Electronics has urged its South Korean labour union to resume wage negotiations as the threat of an 18-day strike raises concerns over potential disruption at one of the world’s most important semiconductor producers.

The company proposed renewed talks after government-mediated negotiations broke down, according to a union leader who cited a letter from Samsung. South Korea’s Labour Commission has also called on both sides to hold another round of mediated discussions on Saturday in an effort to avert a prolonged work stoppage.
