Xi Jinping to Make Debut at China’s Flagship AI Summit as US Rivalry Intensifies

Beijing, 13 July 2026 – Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai and deliver a keynote address, placing China’s top leader at the centre of its most prominent annual showcase for artificial intelligence.

The conference and accompanying High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance will run from 17 to 20 July. Xi’s planned appearance marks his debut at the event, which has developed into an important platform for China’s technology companies, policymakers and international partners since its launch in 2018. China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Xi’s attendance.
