London, 4 May 2026 – The United Kingdom is preparing to enter talks to join the European Union’s €90 billion, or about US$105.9 billion, loan programme for Ukraine, marking another significant step in Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s effort to rebuild practical cooperation with Europe after Brexit.
The proposed participation would place Britain alongside the EU’s broader financing framework for Ukraine, which is designed to provide interest-free loans for 2026 and 2027. The EU package relies on joint borrowing backed by the bloc’s budget headroom, allowing Brussels to raise funds from capital markets while giving Kyiv longer-term financial certainty.
