Stuart Wilkin’s Stellar Display Powers Malaysia to 2–1 Friendly Win Over Singapore

Kuala Lumpur, September 4, 2025 — Versatile midfielder Stuart Wilkin emerged as the driving force behind Malaysia’s 2–1 friendly victory over Singapore at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil. Positioned as a right wing-back by head coach Peter Cklamovski, Wilkin not only opened the scoring with a sublime strike but also turned provider for the second goal, underlining his tactical adaptability and influence.

From the outset, Malaysia dominated possession and created chances—Arif Aiman’s early drive, set up by Wilkin, forced a strong save from Singapore goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Wilkin, showcasing impeccable technique, chested down a lofted pass from Endrick and unleashed a delicate half-volley into the near post—leaving Izwan stranded. The goal marked Wilkin’s third against Singapore, solidifying his knack for shining in key moments.

The second half saw Wilkin shift seamlessly into creator mode. In the 54th minute, he delivered a perfectly weighted cross from the right—connectivity born from a smart feed by Endrick—to set up João Figueiredo, who headed home to extend Malaysia’s lead.

Although substitute Ilhan Fandi halved the deficit with a blistering 35-meter strike in the 71st minute, the home side held firm. Wilkin was substituted in the 62nd minute to a warm ovation from the crowd—his impact clear in both goals and drive.

Coach Cklamovski praised the squad’s mentality, though admitted the team made the Singapore fixture “tougher than expected,” pointing to room for tightening up ahead of upcoming challenges.
