Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, 25 January 2026 – Malaysia’s para-athletes delivered a standout performance at the 13th ASEAN Para Games, exceeding their medal targets at the multi-sport event held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand and demonstrating the strength and depth of the national contingent across a range of disciplines.

The national squad entered the Games with ambitious goals, including a target of 181 total medals and a specific aim of winning 55 gold medals, and the team clearly surpassed expectations. By the closing stages of competition, Malaysia’s final medal tally stood at 201 medals overall, consisting of 64 gold, 64 silver and 73 bronze medals.

Standout performances included para long jumper Wong Kar Gee, who clinched Malaysia’s 55th gold in the T12 men’s long jump, setting a new ASEAN Para Games record with a leap of 6.83 metres. Meanwhile, wheelchair tennis player Mohamad Yusshazwan Yusuf sealed the nation’s 181st medal with a straight-sets victory over Thailand’s Kittiphong Wongcharoen in the men’s singles final.

Malaysia’s medal haul reflects strong showings across para athletics, swimming, table tennis, powerlifting and other sports, underscoring the consistency and competitive spirit of the country’s para-athletes throughout the week-long Games. The achievement also highlights the impact of years of targeted preparation, systematic training programmes and coordinated support from coaches and national sports bodies.

Beyond the medal count, several individual triumphs made headlines, such as Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli’s gold in the men’s shot put F20 event, where he produced a winning throw of 16.81 metres.

Malaysia’s success at the ASEAN Para Games runs parallel to broader regional competition, with host nation Thailand topping the overall medal table, followed by Indonesia and Vietnam, reflecting the deepening investment and rising standards in para-sports across Southeast Asia.

The results in Thailand mark another milestone for Malaysian para-sport, reinforcing the country’s status as a formidable force in regional Paralympic competition and a rising source of national pride and inspiration for athletes with disabilities.
