China’s Drug Regulator Clears Wave of Home-Grown Innovative Medicines Amid Biotech Boom

Shanghai, 27 May 2026 – China’s drug regulator has cleared a fresh wave of home-grown innovative medicines, strengthening the country’s ambition to move beyond generic drug manufacturing and become a more influential force in global biotechnology.

The approvals come as China’s pharmaceutical and biotech sector gains momentum from faster regulatory review, deeper research pipelines and rising interest from multinational drugmakers seeking new assets. The National Medical Products Administration has previously said it would step up efforts to facilitate research and market registration of home-grown innovative drugs, while also accelerating the introduction of novel foreign drugs into China.
