Kuala Lumpur, 18 August 2026 – MDPM and Mah Sing Group mobilise over RM100,000 in cash incentives to celebrate Malaysian medalists from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Speaking at the appreciation banquet held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC), MDPM President Datuk Alvin Tee commended the resilience, discipline, and competitive spirit demonstrated by the national contingent on the global sporting stage. Tee highlighted that behind every medal achieved in international competition lies years of rigorous preparation, personal sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to representing the nation under the Jalur Gemilang.
The appreciation event brought together senior government representatives, sports administrators, corporate sponsors, and national athletes. The gathering was attended by Ministry of Youth and Sports Secretary-General Dato’ Rahimi bin Ismail as Guest of Honour, alongside Chef de Mission of the Glasgow 2026 Malaysian Contingent Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz, who also serves as MDPM Advisor and former President. Other prominent sporting leaders in attendance included Paralympic Council of Malaysia President Dato’ Sri Megat D. Shahriman Dato’ Zaharudin, Olympic Council of Malaysia Secretary-General Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali, Malaysian Weightlifting Federation President Dato’ Ayub Rahmat, and National Sports Council Director-General Jefri Ngadirin.
In his address, Datuk Alvin Tee emphasized that MDPM, which unites federal titleholders conferred by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, views its mission as extending far beyond an association of titleholders. He stated that federal honours carry a civic responsibility to serve society, maintain public integrity, and make tangible contributions to nation-building. A central pillar of MDPM’s social mandate focuses on promoting sports development and active lifestyles to foster social cohesion, build enduring friendships, and cultivate a resilient, healthy society.
Despite a condensed organizing timeline, MDPM successfully secured over RM100,000 in financial contributions from more than 10 corporate sponsors to fund cash incentives for gold, silver, and bronze medalists. Prominent property developer Mah Sing Group Berhad anchored the private sector drive with a RM50,000 contribution, represented at the dinner by its Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Lionel Leong. Tee noted that the cash rewards symbolize the nation’s profound appreciation, belief, and steadfast solidarity with Malaysian athletes who sacrifice to elevate the country’s sporting standing.
Datuk Alvin Tee also expressed appreciation to the coaches, team managers, sports science personnel, and athletes’ families, emphasizing that athletic triumphs require an entire ecosystem of behind-the-scenes support. He extended gratitude to institutional sports bodies, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Commonwealth Sport Malaysia, the National Sports Council, the National Sports Institute, the Olympic Council of Malaysia, and the Paralympic Council of Malaysia for their continuous collaboration in championing athlete welfare and high-performance development.
With Malaysia preparing to celebrate National Day on 31 August and Malaysia Day on 16 September, Tee urged Malaysians to unite in supporting the national sports ecosystem. Looking to the future, MDPM expressed optimism that Malaysia’s sporting contingent will set new competitive milestones at the upcoming Ahmedabad 2030 Commonwealth Games, particularly with the anticipated return of flagship sports like badminton to the competition roster.
