Malaysia Secures Long-Term Energy Supply Assurance From Russia, Says Anwar

Kepala Batas, 20 June 2026 – Malaysia has secured an assurance from Russia for long-term supplies of oil, gas and diesel, a development that could strengthen the country’s energy security planning as regional economies navigate volatile commodity markets and rising demand for reliable fuel supply.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Russian President Vladimir Putin had given the assurance during their recent discussions in Kazan, where both leaders met on the sidelines of Malaysia’s engagement with Russia and ASEAN leaders. The arrangement is expected to support Malaysia’s energy needs over a long-term horizon, with Anwar indicating that supply security could extend for at least 20 years.
