AirAsia X Cancels 15 Airbus A330-900s as Fleet Strategy Shifts Toward Narrowbody Growth

Kuala Lumpur, 18 June 2026 – Airbus has confirmed the cancellation of AirAsia X’s order for 15 Airbus A330-900 aircraft, marking another major shift in the long-haul low-cost carrier’s fleet strategy as the wider AirAsia group moves toward a more flexible narrowbody-led growth model.

The cancellation was made by mutual agreement between Airbus and AirAsia X, according to confirmation from the European aircraft manufacturer. AirAsia X declined to comment on the matter.
