Beijing, 14 May 2026 – Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump have begun far-reaching talks in Beijing, with the world’s two largest economies seeking to manage tensions over trade, technology, Taiwan and the Iran conflict at a time of rising global uncertainty.
The meeting marks the first visit to China by a US president since Trump’s 2017 trip and comes amid widening economic and geopolitical pressure from conflicts in the Middle East, higher energy prices and supply-chain instability. The two leaders are expected to discuss the Iran war, trade, technology and Taiwan, among other major points of contention.
