Kuala Lumpur, September 5, 2025 — Ranhill Utilities Bhd has formally appointed Datuk Faiz Ishak as its chairman, filling a seat left vacant since the resignation of its founder, Tan Sri Hamdan Mohamad, in August 2024. The decision, effective September 4, followed a submission to Bursa Malaysia confirming the redesignation.
Faiz, 67, assumes the role after serving as a non-independent, non-executive director since August 2024. Having previously held directorships at Transocean Holdings Bhd, YTL Corporation Bhd, and YTL Power International Bhd, he brings significant financial governance experience to Ranhill. His earlier career includes a notable tenure as managing director of New Straits Times Press from 1999 to 2003.
The chairman vacancy followed a major corporate milestone: the founder’s departure shortly after Ranhill was taken over by YTL Power International Bhd and its subsidiary SIPP Power in July 2024. The takeover, via a mandatory general offer, secured a controlling 53.19% stake in the utility provider. The restructuring continued with the exit of longtime executives and ushered in a new board roster including executive directors linked to the YTL legacy.
Ranhill, known for managing Johor’s water utility services through Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd, recently posted a strong financial performance. For the April–June 2025 quarter, the group reported a net profit of RM17.77 million—more than double the RM6.94 million recorded in the previous quarter. Management anticipates sustained demand from sectors like data centres and the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone will support future earnings.
The appointment of Faiz underscores Ranhill’s transition into a new phase—one focused on bolstering governance, operational resilience, and growth in critical utility services under the YTL-driven direction.
