Washington, 24 June 2026 – Anthropic has accused Alibaba-linked operators of illicitly extracting capabilities from its Claude artificial intelligence model, escalating concerns over model security, intellectual property protection and the intensifying AI race between the United States and China.
The US artificial intelligence company alleged that the campaign was the largest known distillation attack against Claude to date. According to a letter sent to leaders of the US Senate Banking Committee, the activity took place between 22 April and 5 June 2026 and generated more than 28.8 million exchanges with Claude through almost 25,000 fraudulent accounts.
