Munich / Kuala Lumpur, September 5, 2025 — Qualcomm and BMW have officially launched the Snapdragon Ride Pilot, a cutting-edge automated driving system, debuting in BMW’s new electric iX3. This driver-assist system delivers hands-free highway driving, automatic lane changes, and AI-powered parking assistance, marking a major leap in modern vehicle autonomy.
Built upon Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride system-on-a-chip architecture, the Ride Pilot integrates a jointly developed software stack with BMW’s hardware, setting safety standards compliant with Level 2+ autonomy under European NCAP regulations. Unlike fully autonomous systems, drivers are still required to remain attentive at all times.
Currently validated in more than 60 countries, Qualcomm plans to extend its geographical reach to exceed 100 countries by 2026, underscoring its ambition to scale rapidly across global markets.
This move reinforces Qualcomm’s ongoing strategic shift from mobile chipmaker to a major player in automotive intelligence. The company’s automotive revenue surged 21% to US$984 million in Q3, and it projects this segment can reach US$8 billion annually by 2029.
The Ride Pilot platform is now available to other automakers and Tier-1 suppliers, positioning Qualcomm as a contender alongside rivals like Nvidia and Mobileye, in a rapidly evolving ecosystem of driver-assistance technology.
