Beijing’s Drone Clampdown Puts DJI and China’s Low-Altitude Economy Under New Pressure

Beijing, 1 May 2026 – Beijing has introduced some of China’s toughest drone controls, banning drone sales in the capital and requiring stricter identity registration for existing devices, in a move that places consumer drone makers, retailers and hobby users under fresh pressure.

The new rules, which take effect from 1 May, prohibit the sale and use of drones within Beijing’s city limits, with exceptions only for approved universities, research institutions and public-safety uses. E-commerce platforms have also restricted drone purchases for customers with Beijing delivery addresses, while retailers have been told to clear drone products from shelves.
