Kuala Lumpur, 17 September 2026 – Malaysian solar industry participants are calling for Budget 2027 measures that would broaden access to battery storage and support rooftop solar adoption. The proposals address the economics of storing electricity as well as generating it, but remain industry requests rather than approved budget allocations or changes to current installation rules.
Vestech, a wholly owned Solarvest subsidiary, highlighted the upfront cost of residential battery energy storage systems as an adoption barrier. Its chief executive, Edmund Loo, proposed rebates or tax relief for home batteries and higher residential solar capacity limits, from 5 kWac to 8 kWac for single-phase users and from 15 kWac to 22 kWac for three-phase users.
