KUALA NERUS: Malaysia is setting its sights on becoming champions at the 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup, scheduled to take place from 4–8 November at the Arena Lawn Bowls in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim expressed confidence that the national squad can deliver on this ambition, citing strong recent performances and intensive preparations.
“The organising by Malaysia through Bowls Malaysia is an opportunity not only to show off the lawn bowling talent we have but we can prove our country’s capability in organising a global championship. To ensure Malaysia can organise the World Cup smoothly, KBS (the Youth and Sports Ministry) will provide assurances to assist from various angles,” he said after officiating the launch of the 2025 National Lawn Bowls Championship at the Gong Badak Sports Complex, which was graced by Bowls Malaysia’s royal patron, Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.
Adam Adli added that the Malaysian team had recently undergone training in Scotland with some of the world’s best lawn bowls players. The World Cup, he said, would also serve as a crucial stepping stone in preparing for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 2025 National Lawn Bowls Championship, now underway, features about 200 participants. Performances in this tournament will determine athletes’ positions in the National Ranking System, a key factor in selecting representatives for international competitions.
With a home-ground advantage and strong backing from the government, Malaysia is aiming not just to host but to dominate one of lawn bowls’ most prestigious tournaments.
