Singapore, 21 August 2026 – The United States dollar stumbled across global currency markets on Friday, heading for broad weekly declines as institutional investors expressed skepticism toward the US Treasury Department’s latest debt buyback operations, sending long-term bond yields higher and eroding demand for the greenback.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback against a basket of six major international currencies, fell below the critical 100 benchmark to trade near 99.30, marking its lowest level in over five months. The currency’s retreat reflects mounting anxiety across fixed-income desks that government liquidity interventions are failing to resolve fundamental imbalances between relentless sovereign debt issuance and waning investor appetite.
